Rahr, Frederick "Fritz" William Sr.

Rahr, Frederick "Fritz" William Sr. passed away at home on April 15, 2015.

He was an extremely kind man and loving husband, father and grandfather. He always had a smile on his face. Born in Milwaukee, WI on May 24, 1930 and raised in Manitowoc, WI, he loved the Green Bay Packers.

Survived by his wife of 60 years, Jodell "Jody" Stirmlinger Rahr, daughter, Heidi Rahr Faris (husband, Andy), son, Frederick "Fritz" William Rahr, Jr. (wife, Erin), grandchildren, Will and Hayden Rahr and Eve and Ian Faris, sister, Petrea Rahr Stern and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, Guido Reinhardt Rahr, Sr. and Natalie Elizabeth Bilharz Rahr, brother Guido Reinhardt Rahr, Jr. and sister-in-law, Annie Laurie Malarkey Rahr.

Fritz enjoyed homes in Bloomington, MN, Naples, FL, Liberty, Canada and Tenderfoot Lake, WI. He was educated at the Arizona Desert School in Tucson, while riding horses and playing polo, and The Millbrook School in NY.

He served our country as a United States Naval Reserve Tail Gunner on PBY Catalina reconnaissance planes along the US Coast during the Korean War.

Fritz enjoyed an exciting career in the family business, working 45 years for Rahr Malting Company in Manitowoc, WI and Shakopee, MN. He loved being part of the beer community and was active in many industry organizations: Master Brewers Association of America, American Association of Brewing Chemists and American Malting Barley Association.

He loved beer, but could always be found with a glass of Early Times Bourbon in his hand during cocktail hour! Fritz proudly served as President of the Rahr Foundation after retirement. He held memberships at Interlachen Country Club, Minnesota Valley Country Club, Naples Sailing and Yacht Club and the Mill Reef Club in Antigua, BWI.

Fritz was a conservationist at heart, active in the Riley Purgatory Creek Watershed District, Izaak Walton League, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and Ducks Unlimited (US, Mexico & Canada). His true passion was hunting with family and many good friends...while always striving to preserve our natural habitat for future generations. Fritz loved the outdoors, especially making maple syrup at the family cabin.

He greatly enjoyed opera and served on the Minnesota Opera Board of Directors for many years.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. on May, 26. at Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Avenue, Edina, MN...followed by a reception to celebrate his life.
