He was a member and deacon of Westport Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his son, Hugh E. Barnes, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Irene Smith Barnes; two sons, Willard (Joy) and Paul Barnes; two daughters, Elaine Gardner and Cindy (Craig) Retzlaff; daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Barnes; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Barnes.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oldham County Funeral Home, 706 W. Jefferson St., LaGrange, KY with private burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Barnes was a teacher at Oldham County HS when my 1958 class was in high school. He received the following degrees: B.S. & M.S. Indiana State College & Nebraska State College. He taught Math & Mechanical Drawing.
