Thomas lived in Main Street, Tiaro and was a highly respected community member when he passed away at age 94 after a long illness.
Emigrated to Australia in about 1863 aboard the Lady Bowen, he first landed in Brisbane. At first engaging in farming pursuits, Thomas later become the overseer of bridges in the construction of the Maryborough to Gympie railway.
Thomas was also actively involved with the church and also contributed to several newspapers.
