Orville W. Asper, 96, of Chenoa died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday (July 22, 2003) at Meadows Mennonite Home, rural Chenoa.

He was born Aug. 19, 1906, in Eppards Point Township, Livingston County, a son of Wilbert Clifford and Katharine Wagner Asper. He married Elverta M. Erdman on Sept. 19, 1930, in Marion, Ky. She died Jan. 15, 2001.

Surviving are one son, Bill (Mimi) Asper, Corona, Calif.; three daughters, Kay (Fred) Wolff, La Quinta, Calif.; Connie (Tom) Cameron, Orlando, Fla.; and Cheryl (George) Elzy, Lexington; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

One son, Orville "Pat" Asper; three brothers; and five sisters preceded him in death.

He attended Ocoya schools, graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1927; received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois where he also lettered in track.

He was an electrical engineer at Public Service Company of Illinois and later farmed in Yates Township, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa, where he had served as an Elder and Trustee, also had been a Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity; University of Illinois Alumni; Rotary International; McLean County Sheriff's Reserves; had served on the Chenoa School Board and later on the McLean County Board of School Trustees (1956-1972). He was a member of the Sportsmen's Club; and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed wildlife conservation and all types of hunting and fishing.
