Katharine Shutts Dix,91, of Winchester Virginia, went to be with the Lord Wednesday July 29, 2009 at her residence.

Katharine was born June 17, 1918, in Winchester,VA, the daughter of Luther L. and Sarah Arbana Frye Shutts.

She was a graduate of Handley High Schoolclass of 1937. She married James William Dix, Jr. on December 24, 1938 in Winchester, VA. She was a homemaker, the longest tenured member of the First United Methodist Church and Golden Link
Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Dix is survived by her son, Jimmy Dix and his wife, Peggy; her daughter, Judy D. Reed and her husband, C. J.; two grandchildren, Tim Heishman and his wife, Melanie and Kimberly D. Hoxton and her husband, Clay and four great grandchildren, Alexandra D. Hoxton, Caroline C. Hoxton, Taylor A. Heishman and Maggie K. Heishman.

Her husband, James W. Dix, Jr. and her brother, Richard L. Shutts preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 1, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Cemetery with Rev. C. Steven Melester and Rev. Will White officiating.

Pallbearers will be John M. Larrick, H. Smith Dorsey, Clay Hoxton, Timothy Heishman, Dick Dallam and Donald D. Anderson.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30-12:30 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 308 North Braddock
