Mrs. J.E. Beck, Resident For 50 Years, Dies

Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Beck, 84 years old and a resident of Arkansas City for 50 years, died at noon Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Wilson, 327 South Seventh street. She had been ill for two years. Mrs. Beck was the widow of the late Jerome E. Beck, veteran of the Civil War. They came to Arkansas City in 1870. Mr. Beck was for many years a prominent member of the old Southwestern Soldiers' Reunion Association which until a few years ago held annual reunions in Arkansas City. He died here; 17 years ago.

Mrs. Beck was a member of the First M.E. church and of the Women's Relief Corps. She was born in Shelbyville, Ill. With her husband, she endured the hardships of the frontier days in and about Arkansas City. The surviving children are: Mrs. W.R. Wilson, Arkansas City, Mrs. John C. Powers, Cleveland; Mrs. D.H. Beebe, Hutchinson, Mrs. Lida Fouts, El Paso, and Mrs. A.L. Burton, Long Beach. Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Powers and Mrs. Beebe are here today. The others will be unable to attend the funeral.

Services are to be conducted at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Oldroyd parlors. The Rev. S.V. Keller, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery, where Mr. Beck is buried.
