February 27, 1939 ~ December 11, 2014

Iris Eyvon Craig, 75, of East Wenatchee, WA, passed away on December 11, 2014. She was born on February 27, 1939, in Buffalo Valley, OK to Al and Stella (Pool) Phillips. Eyvon was the youngest of four children. In 1947, the family left the farm in Oklahoma and moved to McFarland, CA. They worked together in agriculture in California and later in Muleshoe and Rawls, TX. As a young girl, she helped pick cotton, hoe weeds, and cut potatoes. She developed a strong work ethic that remained with her throughout her life. In seventh grade, the family moved to Lubbock, TX, where Eyvon graduated from high school in 1956 - two classes behind Buddy Holly, who played at their school dances.

In 1957, she married Duncan "Dusty" Bardwell and they moved to California with the U.S. Navy. Eyvon lived and worked in San Francisco until Duncan left the Navy in 1959. While Dusty worked for the Federal Aviation Agency, Eyvon stayed at home and cared for their growing family. Deborah was born in California just before the family moved to Henderson, NV. LaRhonda was born while the family lived in Bryce Canyon, UT. After living two years in Malad City, ID, the family settled in the Wenatchee Valley in 1967, where Eyvon's children, Richard and Pamela, were born. She was a devoted wife and mother.

When her "baby" started kindergarten, Eyvon went back to work in Food Services. She took great care of her customers and built many friendships while working at former Wenatchee area restaurants: The Village Queen, Hayford's Cafe;, and the Owl Cafe;. In 1981, she opened her own restaurant, The Cozy Nook Cafe; at the foot of Grant Road. She loved her cafe; and specialized in good ole southern cooking. She enjoyed laughing and teasing her customers and always appreciated a good practical joke. Many years later, we would laugh when she saw one of her former customers and said, "Oh, there is 'short stack with bacon'", or whatever their favorite menu item was. She never forgot an order. In 1991, Eyvon married Thomas Craig. They spent their retirement years together and enjoyed taking trips, fishing, and volunteering many hours with the Eagles, American Legion, and Moose clubs. In 2002, she was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by Eagles Aerie #204. In 2007, she was awarded Volunteer of the Year with the Royal Order of the Moose #2507.

She is survived by her four children, Deborah (Dan) Phelps, LaRhonda (Mike) Kinzebach, Richard Bardwell, and Pamela (Rodger) Johnson; her sister, LaDell Bensley; her brother, Roy Phillips; and nine grandchildren, Josh Bryant, Bristol and Mickey Kinzebach, Tucker Bardwell, and David, Eric, Tim, Randy and Alison Johnson. Eyvon was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; and her sister, Eudene.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tucker and Nurse Lori; the 5th floor Oncology staff at Central Washington Hospital; as well as Dr. Jerome and the wonderful staff at Cascade Medical Swing Rehab.

A Celebration of Eyvon's Life will be held at a later date.
