Klabunde, Edward W.

Edward W. Klabunde, age 91, a Manitowoc resident, died Wednesday morning, May 6, 2015 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

He was born on May 27, 1923 in Deerfield, Wisconsin, son of the late Herman and Ida (Roeske) Klabunde. Edward graduated from the Little Red School House in Deerfield. He entered the Merchant Marines and then enlisted in the United States Army. On August 20, 1949 he married the former Arlene Mertens at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2012.

Edward was employed with various companies in Manitowoc and retired from Jefferson Elementary School as a custodian after 20 years. Edward took great pride in making sure the children and the school were taken care of. He enjoyed fishing, camping and sitting on his front porch, car rides with Tina and also enjoyed spending time at his son Tom's house with family and especially his grandkids.

Survivors include two sons: Tom Klabunde and special friend Carrie, Kevin Klabunde; five daughters: Cynthia Sprang, Debra Kreie, Lori Klabunde and special friend Mike, Leisa Zich and Tina Klabunde, all of Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Donald and Carol Klabunde, Hancock, WI; one sister and brother-in-law: Ruthie and Bob Dehling, Coloma, WI; and a sister-in-law: Carol Gauthier, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Rebecca Alvarez; two sons-in-law: Gary Kreie and James Zich; one brother and sister-in-law: Ervin and Constance Klabunde; one sister and brother-in-law: Elsie and Rollin Clark; two brothers-in-law: Albert Mertens and his wife Ivy, Allen Gauthier; and three sisters-in-law: Esther Barr, Edna Brocher and her husband, Willfred and Evelyn Kaiser and her husband, William.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be Deacon Mark LeGreve with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial will be established in Edward's name.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

A thank you to the nurses and staff at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center for the wonderful care extended to Edward and his family. Also a special thank you to all of the family and friends that kept Dad in their thoughts and prayers.
