He was born to Frank O. and Donna G. Lau Upton.
Mr. Upton worked as an employee of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 20 years.
He was a 1977 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington. He was a senior commander of Royal Rangers, a Christian boy scouting program affiliated with his church. he taught Sunday school for 15 years. He also enjoyed touring the country on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle.
Survivors include his father of Lomax, Illinois; mother, Donna Duncan of Wedowee, Alabama; stepfather, Floyd West of Danville; brothers, Craig Upton and Jeff West, both of Burlington; sister, Becki Hill of Davenport; stepsisters, Lori McCright of Sperry and Cheryl Ross of Rantoul, Illinois; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services were held at the First Assembly of God Church in Burlington.
