Celestin Meugniot died at his home in Wathena Jan. 3, 1913, at the age of 75 years. The cause of death was apoplexy. He suffered a first stroke of paralysis seven months ago, followed by later ones.......

Celestine Meugniot came to this country from France with his father's family and lived for a time in St. Joseph.

He knew St. Joseph in it's infancy and was the first extensive grower of strawberries and blackberries in Doniphan County. From the example set by a few of the early French and German settlers around Wathena, the present extensive small fruit industry has grown. ..........

Mr. Meugniot is survived by a wife, two sons, two daughters and two brothers. His son George lives near Troy and his son Will lives at Palermo. The daughters are Mrs. (Mary) Frank Rice; and Mrs.( Anna) Wm. Kaelin;. His brothers, Joe and Julius Meugniot live in Wathena. .........

An impressive funeral sermon was preached at St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 10 a.m. Sunday, by Father Joseph Eiker, and interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
