On April 15, 1922, he married Ruth Rode in Denver, Col. In 1949 he formed the partnership of Bob Mayer and Co. for order buying, trading, ranching and feeding of all kinds of livestock. He served as president of the the Denver Livestock Traders Exchange, Director of the Denver Livestock Exchange, President of the National Livestock Exchange and Chairman of the Coordinating Council at Washington, D. C.
After moving to Guymon in 1963, he started the Panhandle Livestock Commission Co., and ran it until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of Paul Revere Masonic Lodge No. 162 in Denver and a dual member of the Guymon Masonic Lodge No. 335.
He was a longtime member of the Guymon Kiwanis club, serving as past president and past lieutenant governor of division six.
After his retirement, he was instrumental in organizing the No Man's Land Senior Citizens Club and was chairman of the Council on Aging. He also served on the Guymon Citizen Advisory Board and was director of the Texas County Development Council. He also attended the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home; one daughter, Roberta Curtis and her husband Harold of Denver; two sons, John Mayer and his wife, Gwen of Guymon and Charles Mayer and his wife, Rhonnie of Dumas, Texas; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Masonic funeral rites will be conducted by the Guymon Lodge #335 AF&AM. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
