Clayton M. Alpaugh, 64, retired water well driller who was well known throughout Hillsdale County, died Thursday evening in the Williams County General Hospital in Montpelier, Ohio.

He had lived in Munson, Mich. and had moved to Montpelier just two weeks ago.

He was born in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County May 11, 1903, the son of James Henry and Susan Evaline Heller Alpaugh.

He is survived by his widow, the former Lucille Freese; two daughters, Mrs. Loraine Schilt of Rte. 1, Camden, and Mrs. Dian Geren of Montpelier; two sons, Paul L. of Montpelier and Lloyd E. of Reading; five sisters, Mrs. Florence Smith of Terre Haute, Ind., Mrs.Allie Wallace of Montpelier, Mrs. Phebe Black of Frontier; Mrs. Mary Petersen and Mrs. Evah May, both of Taylor, Mich.; one half-sister, Mrs. Edith Inghram of California; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier.

The Rev. Lorence Rodenbeck of the Kunkle United Brethren Church will officiate and burial will be in the Shiffler Cemetery in Williams County, Ohio.
