Born March 6, 1931 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Richard M. and Jean E. Patterson Mayberry.
She was preceded in passing on June 28, 2008 by her husband of 58 years, James R. Book, Jr., whom she married October 26, 1949.
A graduate of the former Eastbrook High School, she was employed with Sears Roebuck in the catalog department, retiring in 1988.
Barbara enjoyed baking, home decorating, shopping and hunting bargains at garage sales with her husband, and gatherings with her family and friends. She loved music, was a gifted vocalist and liked harmonizing with the Statler Brothers. Mrs. Book was a member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, three sons, one brother, one sister-in-law, 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jim, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard M. Mayberry.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am, following visitation from 10-11 am, at Eastbrook Presbyterian Church, 3727 State Road, New Castle. Pastor Jason Schepp will be officiating.
