Morris was born in Thief River Falls, MN to Alfred and Selma Flattum on Dec. 16, 1931. He went to high school at Lincoln Senior High, served in the US National Guard during the Korean War. He then went on to work on the Soo Line Railroad as a Conductor and Brakeman for the next 44 years. He married June Wagner from Kenmare, ND on March 27, 1955.

Morris loved his work on the railroad and also loved the North Minnesota woods. He was a great outdoorsman and eventually built his own log cabin from the ground up on the edge of the Red Lake Indian Reservation. He loved everything outdoors including hunting, fishing, ice fishing, 4 wheeling, and snowmobiling.

Upon retirement, Morris and June became “Snow-Birds” traveling back and forth from Minnesota to Ft. Meyers, Florida in their RV. They enjoyed stopping in Atlanta, GA for a month on the way down and back each winter to spend time with their son David, daughter Debbie, her husband David, and especially their grandchildren, David Jr., Joshua, and Jessica Musselman.

It would be their wish for you to know that in 1991, mom and dad traveled to the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN, to attend Billy Graham’s 397th crusade and together, after hearing Dr. Graham’s message of love, forgiveness, salvation, and the assurance of Heaven, they walked down the aisle at the end of the crusade, and invited Jesus into their lives. It sounds like a strange concept, but the Bible is clear. “Unless A Man is “born again” he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” John 3:3.

In 1998, they moved to Cape Coral, Florida where they built their dream home on a canal. Morris became an avid boating enthusiast and purchased a “Sea Spray” that he lovingly named “Miss Jessica.”

In 2005, they moved to Ellijay, GA to be closer to their children. Most recently they moved to Lynchburg, VA where Debbie and her family reside.

Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Selma Flattum; his brothers Don, Luther, Gerry & Stanley and their sister, Fern, granddaughter Debra Musselman, and great grandson Kayden Musselman.

Morris is survived by his wife, June Flattum, his brother Paul Flattum, his son David Flattum, his daughter, Debbie (David) Musselman, grandchildren David Musselman Jr., Jessica Musselman, Joshua (Kate) Musselman, and great grandchildren, Hannah Grace Musselman and Elijah Timothy Musselman.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to staff and friends at Liberty University for the many meals brought to our home during this difficult time. Thank you Runk & Pratt @ Liberty Ridge Assisted Living, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their exceptional care and support of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather in his final days. Thank you Kay Hall for creating a Chapel full of memories of our father’s life. It was exceptional! Finally, thank you Jonathan Falwell for your sensitivity to our family and your attention to carefully describe our husband/father’s life as you conducted a beautiful memorial service for him that expressed how our hope in death is our faith in the resurrection of Jesus after He was crucified.
