John (Johann) Christian Buntley (commonly called Chris) was the pioneer of the Buntley family that I am descended from. In 1791 he left Germany and headed to the States to "escape military training". He first went to England and then to New York and by 1836 had made it to Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was married to Louisa Burrows (buried in Grundy Co., TN). They had six (6) children: Louisa M., William, Andrew J., George W., Jacob B., and Mary C. Soon after Mary was born, Chris and Louisa separated. She left the five oldest with him and took the baby, never to return. His second wife was Margaret Haws, they never had any children. Chris is more than likely buried in the old Buntley Cemetery in Mimosa. This is located on the farm that I grew up on. This cemetery is located up on the hill behind the old farm place and to the left of the home. When we lived there, very few markers were still visible. Now this cemetery is overgrown with weeds and briars and is very hard to access because no road leads to it. During Chris' lifetime, this must have been a beautiful location nestled on the hill amongst the Mimosa trees overlooking the valley. What a perfect place to spend the rest of your days!
