David L. Duden, 63, for many years prominent in Republican politics in Cole county died suddenly at his home in Centertown during Saturday night. Mr. Duden suffered a heart attack after retiring and never rallied. It was the second attack within two months. He was stricken July 4th and was ill for several weeks but apparently had recovered.

The funeral took place at 2:30 this afternoon at Centertown and Rev. A.J. Jackson of Jefferson City officiated. Many Republicans fro Jefferson City attended the funeral.

Mr. Duden was born in Lock, Ohio, March 15, 1872. He moved to Missouri with his parents when a 10 year old boy. The family settled at Clinton where he grew to manhood. He went to Centertown as a Missouri Pacific telegraph operator and station agent 36 years ago and has resided there since. After severing connections with the railroad he engaged in general merchandising and during that time became active in politics. He served as a member of the county committee for years and was twice induced to make the race for county clerk against C.A. Dirckx. He was defeated but the reverses did not dim his enthusiasm and he continued active in party affairs.

After disposing of his business he was appointed a clerk in the state oil inspection department and later was assistant superintendent at the old soldiers home in Higginsville. His last visit to Jefferson City was as a member of the grand jury.

He married Miss Lillian Anderson at Centertown 31 years ago. They had one daughter, Mrs. S.A. Duvall of Jefferson City. A brother, Lloyd, of Des Moines, Ia., and a sister, Emma Duden of Clinton, also survive.
