Earlin Stuart Brown, one of nine children of Robert Earl Brown and Bertha Blaskey Brown, was born November 9, 1925 in Boone, Iowa and died October 19, 2012 at his home in Perry, Iowa. Earlin was 86. He attended elementary and junior high school in Ogden. Earlin was a wonderful athlete and had dreams of going on to be a Major League pitcher. Being the unselfish person he always was, he gave that up to help his mother with his large family. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Caney oil tanker, seeing duty in the Okinawa canal where the ship refueled vessels. Earlin also had the enviable traits of being a dedicated, loyal worker and being very humble. He worked for the Foundry from the time he was 21 years old until he retired as a foreman at age 62. He had missed only two days of work. Earlin and Maxine Blaisdell were united in marriage on May 22, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with raising two daughters, Kayla and Janet, and Earlin doted on all of his "women". Earlin enjoyed mushroom hunting and picking up and cleaning walnuts, only to give them away, and picking raspberries for pies and for sharing with everyone. His plum tree was popular with his neighbors and he was more than willing to share those, too. He was a good fixer, a grandpa of all trades. Earlin enjoyed woodworking, and could just look at pictures and then create wooden treasures for his family. He was a grandpa of all trades! Earlin collected buttons, made popcorn balls, loved all sports but was a football fanatic, and was generous to his neighbors. Earlin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine (3/25/2011), siblings Opal Crouthamel; Geneva Apple; Isabel Shadle ; Harold Brown; Clifford Brown; and Theodore Brown. Earlin is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Kayla Stevens (Joe) of Perry and Janet Sheehy of Perry, three grandchildren Jolene Peters (Greg) of Carroll, Iowa, Laurie Sheehy (Tim Carroll) of Luther, and Kristen Hethcot of Luther, five great-grandchildren: Ryan Peters, Emily Peters, Alecia Peters, Aaron Peters, and Keegan Grimstad, brothers Norman Brown (Kay), and Everett Brown (Joyce) sisters-in-law Muriel Brown; Mary Jo Blaisdell and Helen Blaisdell; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
