GILBERT Frederick O. Age 86 of Big Flats, NY passed away on Wednesday September 2, 2009 at his home. Fred was born July 12, 1923 in Unadilla, NY the son of the late Abijah and Alta Cower Gilbert. He moved to Big Flats, NY in 1946. Fred married his wife, Barbara Palmer Gilbert, on September 12, 1948 and they would have celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on September 12, 2009. Fred worked at the NYSEG Hickling Station and retired after 36 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed spending winters in his Bellevue, Florida home tending to his fruit trees. Mr. Gilbert was also a Master Mason of The Free & Accepted Order of Masons for 55 years. Fred is survived by his wife Barbara Palmer Gilbert; his four children: Karen (Jon) Noblet, Judith Gilbert (Gary Hillengas), Frederick O. Gilbert Jr., Suzanne (Bill) Ports; eight grandchildren: Kristin, Erin, Christopher, Michael, Kimberly, Lauren, Megan, and Jared; brothers: Seward and Frank Gilbert and their wives along with many nieces and nephews. Fred was pre-deceased by his brothers Harold and Donald and his sister Florence. Known as a jokester and someone who would always lend you a hand, his family and friends have many memories that make them smile. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Sunday September 6, 2009 from 2-4 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held following calling hours with Rev. Rick Price officiating. Fred will be laid to rest in Bainbridge's Greenlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
