Miss Frances M. Vander Linden, 75. of 563 Cambridge Avenue, retired executive director of the YWCA. was found dead in a bathtub at her home Monday morning and Coroner S. S. Daw gave a verdict of accidental drowning. She had been in failing health the past two years. Miss Vander Linden was born Jan. 31. 1900. at Pella, Iowa, and retired July 31. 1966, after having served as executive director of the YWCA 11 years. During the time of her employment a $250.000 renovation program was completed and the programs and staff members were increased. Miss Vander Linden was a member of Central Presbyterian Church which she had served as an elder. She also served on the committee for Christian education. Active in other community organizations, she was a member of Zanesville Business and Professional Women's Club and the American Association of University Women which she served as a first vice president in 1965. She was a graduate of Central College in Falls. Iowa, and later attended Chicago, Boston. Columbia and New York universities, majoring in social services, and also received training at the New York School of Social Work and the American Laboratory of Education. Locally, she was also a member of the League of Women Voters, Muskingum County Community Action group of the Economic Opportunity Administration. Muskingum Council on Children and Youth, the Council on Human Rights, and she was a director of the Muskingum County Mental Health Association. Surviving are her stepmother, Mrs. Julia Vander Linden of Pella. Iowa; a half brother. Carl Vander Linden of Denver, Colo.; a niece and a nephew. The body was taken to Bryan Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. At 12:30 p.m. Thursday the body will be taken to Central Presbyterian Church for services an hour later. --The Times Recorder, Zanesville, Ohio June 4, 1975
