Gilbert "Dean" Auld, 79, of Bartonville passed away peacefully at 5:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Heddington Oaks, with his wife Jeanne and daughter Deana by his side.
He was born on August 21, 1935 in Canton, Illinois to Frank "Toad" and Catherine "Katie" (Levar) Auld. He married Jeanne Daley Vandergriff on August 4, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Julie Shaver and Deana (Guy) Kirtley both of Las Vegas, Nevada, one son, Jeff Auld of Houston, Texas; one step daughter, Michelle (Mike) Genovese of Peoria, Illinois; one sister, Mary Grier of Canton, Illinois and one brother, David (Sherry) Auld of Norris, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren Danelle Alderman and Taylor Kirtley of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jayden Auld of Houston, Texas, Michael (Stephanie) Genovese and Meagan Genovese, both of Peoria, Illinois. Dean also has five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Boots. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ernie of Norris, Illinois, Robert of Peoria, Illinois and one sister, Joann Auld of Norris, Illinois.
Dean was a graduate of Canton Senior High School and attended ICC and Bradley University. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed by Caterpillar and worked in Corporate Information Services and Financial Reporting. Dean retired from Caterpillar with 45 years of service in 1999. Following his retirement, Dean enjoyed playing golf on a daily basis along with playing cards with his friends. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was a "die-hard" Chicago Bears fan as well as loving those Chicago Cubbies! He enjoyed many trips and gatherings with the "Spirits Group" which included the Cannons, Stakers, and the Crandalls. Dean took great pride in taking care of his lawn and his flowers.
Dean and Jeanne attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, Illinois. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 20 in Peoria, American Legion Post 979 of Bartonville and the Amvets of Peoria.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Heddington Oaks and the OSF Hospice staff for their care and compassion throughout this time.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Pastor Kirk Moser will officiate. A visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
