"There was formerly in the choir of the Church of Notre-Dame a large tomb on which rested the effigies of Duke Rene and his wife. In 1792 this monument was destroyed. The vault over which the tomb stood is now closed and over it is the altar. It contained the bodies of Duke Rene, Duke Charles IV, and of the Prince of Vianna, son of Henry II, King of Navarre. During the Revolution the vault was devastated. [When] M. Leon de la Sicottiere examined it in 1838, he found a few scattered bones, some teeth, and some hair reddened by contact with lime."
