Duane was born in Portland, OR and lived most of his life in Des Moines. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII and worked as a field agent in the Feed Mill and Grain Elevator Department of Kemper Insurance. Duane enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was a member of St. Augustin's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Quance; children, Carolyn J. Stuhlsatz of St. Louis, MO, David H. Quance of Spirit Lake, Michael D. Quance and Christine L. Carlton, both of Des Moines, Mary Beth Burns of Granger and Teresa A. Quance of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Rowena Masterson of Sylvania, OH; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home, where a Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustin's Catholic Church or Hospice Kavanagh House on Grand.
