Death of Ira Elmer Knisely. In this city, on Sunday, the 19th day of December, 1886, Ira Elmer Knisely., died. The deceased was born in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on the 16th day of August, 1868, and moved to Dickinson county, Kansas, about nine years ago, with his mother, where he assisted in farming. During the past four years he has been striving, as few young men ever do, to secure an education. Being without means, it was necessary for him to work his way through school. This he did in Clay Center for some time, but came to Holton about two years ago. He attended Campbell Normal University, laboring when it did not interfere with his studies. By untiring industry he completed the teacher's and scientific course in that institution, and was progressing rapidly in the classical course when ill health overtook him. A few weeks ago he was out working with a Rock Island corps of surveyors, when typhoid remittent fever prostrated him. This disease, combined with spinal affection of long standing, caused his untimely death .. He was a member of the Baptist church ... He was a brother of Mrs. C. Menninger of this city. His brothers and mother from the old home in Dickinson county attended the funeral, which took place yesterday, the services being held at the M.E. church by Rev. Friend .... The Holton Weekly Signal, December 22, 1886.
