Harry J. Clark passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2006. He was born Harry John Clark on July 2, 1932, to Clyde Samuel Clark and Margaret Gill Clark in Sharpsville, PA. He graduated from high school in June 1950 and joined the Air Force in July 1950. He graduated from Electronics School at Kessler Air Force Base in May 1951 and received his orders to Japan in June 1951. He rose to the rank of S/SGT and was honorably discharged July 10, 1954. He worked at Donners Ga rage during his high school and college days, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in June 1959 from Youngstown University. He spent the next three years with Lockheed, Burbank, CA on the P3V ORION Aircraft Program. He did the engineering work and flew as part of the flight crew, both on the prototype and the first production line models. He spent the next two years with the Boeing Co. deriving methods to reduce Circular Error Probability (CEPs) of inter-continental missiles. He joined NASA at MSFC in June 1964 and KSC after the Saturn 1 pro gram ended and he became Kennedy Space Centers Instrument Unit Pro gram Manager. Shortly after, he became the Saturn-V Launch Vehicle Program Manager. He allowed his four Managers, Ed Hacker, Ed Popovich, Tom Feaster, and Art Billota to utilize their own style of management. Harry Clark became Ken nedy Space Centers first Shuttle Upper Stage Manager and NASA Headquarters first Wide Bodied Shuttle/ Centaur Program Manager. He retired from NASA in 1985 and became Director of Space Operations for Vitro Corp in Washington D.C. Mr. Clark was Program Manager of contract to Code Q, NASA Headquarters. He rewrote the Code Q Directives and gave advice to the Director, Code Q to help bring the Shuttle back on line safely. He introduced the Space Station to Space Shuttle Safety at Westin, VA. He retired from Vitro Corp. and became President of ANALEX Space Systems in March of 1991. He became a Space Consultant in 1996 and worked proposals for various government agencies. Harry Clark was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Cocoa Beach, and taught the intermediate Sunday School and the Adult Bible Study Classes in the late 1970s. He chaired the monthly meetings of the Church Council to give his Pastor (Pastor Downey) time to participate in the meet ings, unencumbered with the agenda. He is survived by his loving wife, Hisako Clark of 52 years. They would have cele brated their 53rd anniversary this July 15th. He is also sur vived by his seven children and their spouses and chil dren; Thomas and Carol Clark of Cocoa, FL, Margaret and Mike Meyers of Fallbrook, CA, Kim and Jerry Welch of Hous ton, TX, Yaeta and Roger Belew of Merritt Island, FL, Harry Jr. and Patti Clark of Port St. John, FL, Clyde and Jeanne Clark of Melbourne, FL and Tammy and Gus Medina of West Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by Donald Layaou of Merritt Island, whom he considered to be a son. He is survived by thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the service follow ing at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Brevard Memori al Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Brevard Animal Society. Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa is entrusted with arrangements.
