Funeral services for Hiram P. Anderson, 96, one of Christian county's oldest and best known residents, who died Saturday, June 12, were held Monday afternoon at Sparta Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Floyd Hanks of Springfield, with interment in Roller cemetery under direction of the Chaffin Funeral Home of Ozark.

Born in Hawkins County, Tennessee in 1847, he was married to Mary Jane Bloomer in 1868. His wife preceded him in death in 1937.

Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, with their five children, moved from their home in Scott county, Virginia, to Christian county in 1880, making the trip by covered wagon. Thirteen children were born to the family 11 of whom survive. They are Mrs. Alice Monger, Sparta, Mrs. Lizzie Hawkins and James B. Anderson, Ozark, Harvey Anderson, Chadwick, Lt. Col. P.H. Anderson, Ft. Ringgold, Texas; Mrs. Cora Monger, Oldfield; Charles Anderson, Springfield; Mrs. Marie Woods and Wade Anderson, Rogersville R.F.D.; Mrs. Barbara Thompson, Fresno, Calif.; and Hiram P. Anderson Jr., Firebaugh, Calif. Two children preceded their parents in death, Epps Anderson in 1906, and Mrs. Virgie Warren in 1930. Also surviving are 57 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, a total of 122 living descendants.

Mr. Anderson was converted and united with the Baptist church while a young man in Scott county, Virginia.
