Viola Davis Whitaker was one of five children born to the late Rev. King Solomon and Mariah Davis in Darlington SC. Her parents moved Viola and her siblings King Solomon Jr., James, Clarence and Lillie Bell to Wilmington, NC when they were young children.

In Wilmington, Viola's father founded a few churches, the last of which was Mt. Roney Baptist Church. Viola was a very active member of the church from childhood until she left North Carolina.

Viola married her beloved husband,Thomas Whitaker Sr.(1912-2000), on Valentines day 1931. To this union three children were born.

Viola left North Carolina for New York City in the early sixties where she worked as a domestic for many years before moving to Boston Massachusetts in 1969, there she resided until her death. Viola found a church home with Friendship Baptist Church in Boston, under Rev. George W. O'Neal. Viola was President of the Mother's Board for many years.

Viola was a very caring loving individual who nurtured her family and was there for them at all times.

She leaves behind her children; Annie Bell, Ethel and Thomas Jr.,nine grandchildren; Janice, Bubba, Tony, Willie, Dee Dee, Anjanette, Kevin, Dexter and Chanda, 20 great -grandchildren; Terry, Tia, Tiffany,Tyrus, Dewayne, Azure, Isaiah, Aasad, Amina, Anthony, Karen, Saquan, Kahlief, Arie, Tariq, Kiyana, Tonette, Anthony, Kiesha and Quentin. 12 great-great grandchildren; Terrell, Syanne, Shaniece, Sierrah, Osbert, Ophelia, Jahmira, Emanuel, Devon, Jacari, Keon,Lamarri and Abigail and one great-great-great grandchild Savannah. She is truly missed every day.
