John Gordon Smith, 88, of Amos Ridge Road, Frenchburg, Kentucky passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the St. Joseph-Mt. Sterling Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Accoville Flats, West Virginia on September 11, 1926 the son of the late John Martin and Elzie Ryder Smith. He was World War II veteran and a retired plumbing inspector and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was the widower of Iris Trusty Smith.

He is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Steve) Wells and Deann (Charles) Hurley; one son, David (Debbie) Smith; three sisters, Florene Earlyvine, Opal Armitage and Gail Mullins; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 AM. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Bethel Baptsit Church with Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating and burial following in the Mack Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday evening from 6-9 PM at the Bethel Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jackie Hager, Jimmy Hager, Larry Wells, Mickey Smith, Ricky Lee Williams and Garrett David Wells. Taul Funeral Homes of Frenchburg is in charge of arrangements. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post # 22.
