Son of George Wilson Dean & Effie L. Graves; husband of Leola Callis. Locally prominent businessman; benefactor of Hollywood Methodist Church; present Joy Chapel was erected in 1966-67 by Mr. Dean as a memorial to his parents and in honor of his wife's parents. Old MD Route 235 through Hollywood was renamed "Mervell Dean Road" ca. 1990, following the construction of a dualized MD 235 around Hollywood's business district; memorial window to him at Hollywood UMC - Jesus at Home in Nazareth (Matt. 2:23); funeral services at Hollywood Methodist Church
