Claude R. Barta, age 85, of 1933 Cappaert Road, Manitowoc, passed away on Friday morning, May 15, 2015 at his residence. Claude was born June 17, 1929 in Manitowoc, son of the late Raymond and Mary Prtizel Barta.

He attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1947. Claude was a State Licensed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. He owned and operated Barta Real Estate and Appraisal Service for over 30 years. He was a Past President of the Manitowoc County Board of Realtors and served on various committees of the board. Claude also served as a District Vice President of the Wisconsin Board of Realtors. He also served on the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors in the 1950’s and 60’s and was 1st Vice Chairman of the Board. Claude also served for over 15 years on the City of Manitowoc’s Plan Commission and the Fire and Police Commission. He was a lifelong citizen who loved Manitowoc. Over his lifetime, he served as a Scout Master of Troop #4 and was active in the Y.M.C.A. , the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and was chairman of their development in the 1960’s of Red Arrow Park. He served on the Holiday House Board of Directors and other service projects and was a life member of the Yacht Club and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and the Manitowoc County Historical Association. He enjoyed art, gardening and in recent years sharing his knowledge and photos of Manitowoc County in a slide show presentation given at area nursing homes and senior centers of Manitowoc and Two Rivers. On February 3, 1951 he married Joan Knutson in Waukesha. Claude was a participant in the 1999 sister city citizen exchange to Kamagawa, Japan.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Joan; three children: Claudia (Dennis) Naidl, Green Bay; Jill (Jim) Chadek, Two Rivers; Peter (Jodi) Barta, Wauwatosa; seven grandchildren: Philip Naidl, Patrick (Megan) Naidl, Lara (Jack) Pomprowitz; Bill (Ryan) Chadek, James Segerson; Haley Barta and Samuel Barta; three great grandchildren: Hattie Naidl; Liam and Dianna Chadek; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Mary Barta; one sister and brother-in-law: Corrine and Richard Beitzel.

A private Life Celebration Social with dinner was held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, on Monday, May 18, 2015. Entombment took place at Calvary Mausoleum in Manitowoc.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
