The son of Jesse & Jane Ann (Baughman) Clapsaddle, in 1860 he was a blacksmith living in Two Taverns, Mountjoy Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 4" tall and had brown hair and black eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Chambersburg February 1, 1864, mustered into federal service there February 3 as a private with Co. B, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), but died of typhoid fever at City Point Army Hospital (now Hampton), Virginia.
[Please note that I have found no evidence of his capture. Had he been captured at Cold Harbor, it was highly unlikely that he would have been back in Union hands within seven weeks.]
Info from pat callahan (inactive) (#46773012):
Enlisted Jan 1864 CO B 21st PA Calvery
Taken POW June 2 1864 Cold Harbor VA
