Evan Lane Abel, 13, of Lorena, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in Temple, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Sanfilippo Syndrome. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Waco. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 24, at First Baptist Church of Woodway, with interment to follow in Stanford Chapel Cemetery.

Evan was born in Waco, Texas, to John and Kristi (Hill) Abel. He was part of the Life Skills class at Lorena Elementary School. He enjoyed music, singing and dancing to the Wiggles, and sports. Evan played in the Challenger Baseball League for several years. In such a short time, Evan touched so many lives. He will live on in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. He was a beacon of hope and inspiration. His smile and high-fives will be missed by many.

Evan was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jack Abel; and his maternal grandfather, Rodney Hill.

Survivors include his loving parents, John and Kristi Abel; brothers, Jake and Ryne Abel; grandparents, Willie Abel, and John and Brenda Winkler; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many friends, including his special classmates and teachers in his Life Skills class at Lorena Elementary and at Hewitt Elementary.
