Isabella Bayne was born in 27 Sep 1853 in New Glasgow, Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada as the ninth child of John William Bayne and Jeannet Gemmel. She had eleven siblings, namely: Jane, Alexander Lowden, John, Neil, Christina, William Gemmel, Janet, Agnes, Ellen E, James Alexander, and Mary.

When she was 25, she married William McKinney, son of Robert Arthur McKinney and Mary Matthews, on 19 Feb 1879 in Wingham, Huron County, Ontario.

Their first child Jenny Bell May was born in Peel, Wellington, Ontario in 1880. The family is listed as living in this area in the Canadian 1881 census. Jenny Bell does not appear in any further census records.

In about 1882, the family left Ontario and immigrated to Sugar Island, Michigan, near Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. On 30 Sep 1882 the twin boys Daniel Herbert and Donald Heber were born there. Clarence Alexander would follow in 1893 and Rosamond was adopted in 1905, at the age 4. (Based on DNA evidence, Rosamond's biological parents appear to be of French-Canadian heritage, possibly descending from the Larochelle and McColeman families.)

On 16 March 1910, Isabella, Clarence and Rosamond left Sugar Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for Suffolk, Alberta. She went to join her husband William, and sons Herbert (and family)and Heber, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. They all settled near the town of Alderson and are listed as farmers in the 1911 and 1916 Canadian census.

Her husband William died on 05 Aug 1918. Isabella would later die on 24 March 1920 and is buried with him in the Carlstadt Cemetery in Alderson, Medicine Hat Census Division, Alberta, Canada. There are no grave markers for them.
