ROSALIND GRILLS MELBOURNE Rosalind Louise (Linda) Grills passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Grills was born on March 10, 1927 in Miami, FL, where her father owned a newspaper. After the hurricane of 1928, her father's family moved to Kennesaw, GA. She graduated from Canton High School and was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she met her husband, the late Angelo Grills, COL, US Army (Ret). They married on May 7, 1949. Mrs. Grills is survived by her beloved sons, Tom A. Grills of Melbourne, and M. Tucker (Denise) Grills of Greenwood Village, CO; granddaughters, Angela Evans Grills and Abigail Rosalind Grills also of Greenwood Village. Also surviving Mrs. Grills are her sisters, JoAn Bradley of Wilmington, NC and Priscilla Davis of Atlanta, GA; her brother, Tom M. Arnold, COL USAF (Ret), as well as loving nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the world. The Grills family followed Al's Army career around the world and was stationed in many locations in the US, Germany, and Indonesia. They spent several years in Northern Virginia where Al worked for the Chiefs of Staff. Mrs. Grills and her husband moved to Melbourne in 1990 and became active in the Pineda Presbyterian Church. She was a loving mother, grandparent, avid bridge player, book club member and more. Rosalind, an Army wife, followed her own star nonetheless. The daughter of two newspaper people, she published a guide book to the historic and present day Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth City and Kansas City. While in the Washington DC area, Linda became an expert in the history of the District, becoming a tour guide for the capital attractions. Later, she earned her real estate license in Virginia, where her efforts led to a broker's license. Even after retirement age, Linda was too energetic to merely rest. She became a knowledgeable geologist specializing in the area of the Southwestern US including a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. She loved history and travel, including a trip to Egypt to ride the camels and study the pyramids. Mrs. Grills had a life-long love of reading, travel, and learning. Her knowledge and intelligence were well respected. Her later visits to the Southwest were to Santa Fe, New Mexico and environs where she regularly attended the Santa Fe Opera and studied the history, geography and culture of the West. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 24th, at Pineda Presbyterian Church, 5650 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1250 US Hwy 1, Suite 201, Rockledge, FL 32955. Arrangements entrusted to South Brevard Funeral Home, 724-2222.
