Governor of New Hampshire. Goodell established himself as a successful inventor and businessman. In 1875, in Antrim, he founded a cutting device company which manufactured knives and apple peelers. Also in the 1870's he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and was on the Governor's Council from 1883 to 1886. In 1888, Goodell was elected Governor by a narrow margin, and served from 1889 to 1891. While governor he advocated for prohibition of liquor. After his term, he retired from politics and focused on his business interests. At his death at age 80, he was survived by his second wife and two children.
