Lawyer. Delegate from Guilford County to the meeting of the Third Provincial Congress, which convened at Hillsboro, North Carolina, August 21, 1775. The other delegates included his brothers, Col John Williams, of Orange County, and Col Joseph Williams, of Surry County.

Brother of Elizabeth "Betsy" (wife of Thomas Hicks), Col John Williams (1740-1804), Col Robert Williams (1744-1790), and Col Joseph Williams of Shallow Ford (1748-1827).
Married Mary Ann (Ann) Williamson on Dec 26, 1765, in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
They had nine children: 1) Robert, 2) Nathaniel III, 3) Marmaduke, 4) Mary "Polly" (wife of Gideon Fitz), 5) John Williams, Jr, 6) Ann (wife of Joseph Scales), 7) Elizabeth (wife of Isaac Baldwin,) 8) Rebecca (wife of Thomas Blackwell), and 9) Lucinda ( wife of John Armstrong). [The first child, Robert, was born in Prince Edward County; the other children were born in North Carolina after, in about 1767, they had moved to a part of Orange County which, in 1777, became Caswell County, North Carolina.]
Nathaniel Williams died by accidental drowning while trying to ford a swollen stream.
