Hecker, Elmer E.

Elmer E. Hecker, age 92, a lifelong Valders resident, died on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at his residence.

He was born on August 11, 1922 in Valders, son of the late Adam and Johanna (Schmidt) Hecker. On September 15, 1951 he married Gloria Long at Wesley Methodist Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1995.

Elmer was employed as a puller with Leverenz Shoe Company for many years and also worked his dairy farm until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Valders working as an usher and playing in the church dartball league. More recently he enjoyed going to the annual over 80 luncheon held at the church and attending the weekly social held after services on Sunday. Elmer loved the land. He was very passionate about his farm. Elmer enjoyed building bird houses and maintaining bird feeders and bird baths. He also looked forward to looking at the fall colors every year in Mountain, WI.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Lucille and John Rutherford, Manitowoc; one daughter-in-law: Sylvia Hecker; eight grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister-in-law: Rosemary Long, MO. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by his wife: Gloria Hecker; one son: Steven Hecker; two great-grandsons; two brothers-in-law: Eugene Long and Virgil Long.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Erica Cunningham with burial to follow at Valders West Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The visitation will continue on Wednesday morning, May 27, 2015 in church from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
