John D. Carpenter, 81, of Zanesville, passed away at 9:00 pm Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Cedar Hill Care Center.

He was born August 6, 1933 in Muskingum County, son of John R. and Eva Warne Carpenter. John was a tool and die maker at Anchor Glass Co. He was a member of Lafayette Lodge F & AM and Findley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Hittle Carpenter; daughters, Carol (Brian) Hoover, Lisa (Jim) Carter, Barbie Hayes, all of Zanesville, Vicky (Karl) McKenzie of Hopewell and Pam Shaw of Nashport; son, Robert (Tereasa) Carpenter of Zanesville; sister, Berna Jean Billman of Arizona; grandchildren, Chad (Crystal) McKenzie, Scott (Robin) McKenzie, Shane (Mandy) McKenzie, Jessica (Michael) Sweeney, Heather Stines, Shana (Shane) Bower, Cindy Glass, John (Sarah) Stines, Chris (Kendra) Hoover, Aaron (Ashleigh) Hoover, Jeffrey (Amir) Carpenter, Susan Carpenter, Sarah (Doug) Ellison, Vashti (Jim) Sawtelle, James (Ainsley) Davis, Jerrod Vanoster, Vanetia (Derek) Watiker, Dylan Hayes and Holly Stines.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded by his daughter, Connie Stines; son, Steven D. Carpenter; sister, Mary Lou Carpenter and brothers, Clarence and Raymond Carpenter.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, May 25, 2015 at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral, where services will take place at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 26, 2015 with Rev. Charles Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery.
