He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church.
He was a retired airplane mechanic and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps.
He united in marriage to Laura “Libby” Lamb February 1, 1941. She preceded him in death January 16, 2004.
He is survived by one daughter and two sons and their spouses: Betty and Frank Kidwell of Campbellsville, Kenneth Ray Alfrey and wife, Mary Jean McClellan of Bristol, Tennessee and Richard D. and Lisa Alfrey of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren: Chris Kidwell and wife, Christie, Jonathan Kidwell and wife, Beth, Candy Steele and husband Chris and Bethany Sanford , one granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Alfrey; six great-grandchildren: Emma Kidwell, Cass Kidwell, Cole Kidwell, Clark Kidwell, Jaxon Steele and Anniston Kate Steele; two brothers: Paul Robert Alfrey of California and Spence Alfrey and wife, Kay of Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Clifford Lamb and wife Mae of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Shane Alfrey, one great-grandson, George Alex Kidwell and one sister and two brothers: Wanda Carter, Hershel Alfrey, and Stephen Alfrey.
