CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel F. Hammond, 80, of 3618 Funk Road, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Letterkenny Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elias C. Forrester and Verna Rosenberry Forrester Leedy.
She was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She and her husband were long-time farmers, beginning in 1939 on land that is now part of Letterkenny Army Depot. They moved to their present farm in 1943. She assisted her husband in dairy-heifer sales at their farm for more than 20 years.
She was a member of First Church of God in Chambersburg, where she organized and taught Busy Bees Sunday School class.
She was a member of Holstein-Friesian Association of Brattleboro, Vt.
She is survived by
her husband, Gerald T. Hammond;
one daughter, Lucille H. Carty of Chambersburg;
one son, Eddy F. Hammond of Sevierville, Tenn.;
one brother, Ray W. Forrester of Chambersburg;
one half-brother, Harry Leedy of Chambersburg;
six grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her stepfather, Harvey C. Leedy;
three brothers,
Albert H. Forrester,
Jesse Forrester and
Stoey Forrester;
one half-sister, Mary Hammond; and
one half-brother, Ross E. Leedy.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Church of God, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. The Rev. Earl E. Mills will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg, and Thursday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
