Funeral services were held in the Colfax Cemetery this afternoon for James M. Sparling, 33, pioneer of Huron County who died in Traverse City on Wednesday. The Rev. V. E. Coapman of Kindle officiated.

Mr. Sparling was born on June 27, 1848, in Tipperary Ireland, and came with his parents to Forest Ontario when he was two and a half years old. In 1880, he came to Michigan, residing in Ubly and Bad Axe for a number of years. Mrs. Sparling died on October 11, 1907.

He is survived by seven children; Mrs. Grant G. Herriman, Mrs. Charles R. LeClaire, Elmer and Elwood Sparling all of Detroit, Jacob L. Sparling of Bay City, James M. Sparling of Saginaw, and Mrs. Thomas A. McCallister of Kinde, one sister; Mrs. Susan Slack of Spokane Washington, three brothers; Peter and Jacob Sparling both of Bad Axe, and John Sparling of Spokane, and 18 grandchildren.
