Vaughn R. Backlund passed away on July 13 at his home on Osborne Lane in East Hampton, where he lived for 12 years. He was born in Sag Harbor on August 30, 1915 to Hugo and Mabel Backlund.

Mr. Backlund graduated from Pierson High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Locally, he worked as an estate manager and belonged to the Masons and the American Legion Chelberg Post.

He is survived by his wife Virginia (nee Wright) Backlund. He was interred in Oakland Cemetery. A Legion service was held on July 14. Memorial donations may be made to the East Hampton Presbyterian Church, the American Legion in Sag Harbor, East End Hospice or the East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
