Uncle Leroy's full name is Leroy Carl Applequist.

He was born in San Joaquin County, May 3, 1931 and of course died in Modesto. He married his beautiful bride Jackie E. Dickens in Modesto on July 27, 1950.

He joined the Modesto Police Department October 17, 1950 as a motor officer and remained in that position until 1960 when he was assigned to regular patrol duties. He was promoted to Detective January 3, 1967 and maintained that rank until his retirement December 26, 1986.

Uncle Leroy lived his life by the Clamper Creed, he was always humble as he passed through life, always appreciated a little bit of the ridiculous and always was two fisted when it came to medicinal imbibing.

May our old friend rest well in the Golden Hills, he will be missed.

It is with deep regret and sorrow to inform everyone that XNGH "Uncle Leroy Applequest" has passed away a few hours ago. Prayers to his widder Jackie and the rest of his family.

Uncle has been a fixture of 58 for many decades and the existence of this great chapter is due to the true dedication of this man. He was the "Ultimate Clamper", a true gentleman and many of us owe our knowledge of ECV and Chapter 58 to this great man. He was a mentor to many and will be missed greatly. I am proud to say he was my friend. RIP Unk and I'll see you on the other side.

Leroy Applequist patrolled Modesto's cruise-happy downtown from 1955 to 1960, writing 200 tickets a month each of those summers.
