Politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served two terms as Delaware's Attorney General from January 2007 until January 2015. The oldest son of US Delaware Senator, 47th Vice President, and 46th President Joseph Biden II, as a young boy he was involved in an automobile accident in 1972 that tragically took the life of his mother and younger sister in which he and his younger brother were seriously injured. He attended the Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia before graduating from law school at the Syracuse College of Law in Syracuse, New York. In 1995 he became an attorney for the US Department of Justice in Philadelphia and nine years later he was hired as a partner in the law firm Bifferato, Gentilotti, Biden, and Balick of Wilmington, Delaware. In 2003 he joined the Delaware Army National Guard and attained the rank of major in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the 261st Signal Brigade in Smyrna, Delaware, and served in Iraq in 2008. In November 2006 he was elected as Delaware's Attorney General and re-elected four years later. In May 2010 he suffered a mild stroke and In August 2013 he was diagnosed with brain cancer but after treatment with radiation and chemotherapy, it went into remission. In 2014 he did not seek a third term as Delaware's Attorney General as he began planning to run for Governor of Delaware in 2016. However, in 2015 his cancer returned and he died at the age of 46.
