Henry Edgerly:
Musician Henry Irving Edgerly, 5th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, a member of the regimental Band. He was the son of Josiah B. and Cordelia Waldron Edgerly, born November 4, 1838, one of seven siblings born in Farmington, New Hampshire.

He was 22 years of age at the time of his enlistment, residing in Farmington. He enlisted Sept. 12, 1861; mustered in Oct. 28, 1861, as a 3rd Class Musician. His brother James Bartlett Edgerly also enlisted at this time as a 2nd Class Musician. They were both mustered out Aug. 8, 1862 at Harrison's Landing, Va. P. O. ad., Dover, N.H.

5th N.H. Sergt Thomas L. Livermore mentions the following in his book "Days and Events:"

"August 6, [1862] we moved out toward Malvern Hill to support Hooker's advance but did not get engaged or in sight of the enemy, and then marched back again on the 7th. On the 9th our band was mustered out of the service and sent home on the general order which directed that brigades only should have bands, and which, however economical, deprived us of a great deal of comfort."

In 1880 Henry was residing in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire with his wife, Sarah A. Edgerly and their 6-year-old daughter Maggie L. Edgerly.

He was the older brother of Winfield Scott Edgerly, a Second Lieutenant in Company D of the 7th United States Cavalry. During the Battle of the Little Big Horn, he was with Benteen's Battalion, and fought in the hilltop fight, surviving the battle.
