MACON - Elwyn V. "Ches" Chesley, Jr., a lifelong resident of Rowayton and Darien, Connecticut died on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Carlyle Place, Macon, Georgia. He was 88.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 4P.M. in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary with the Reverend Wesley Smith officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at Hart's Mortuary.
Born January 25, 1918 in Swampscott, MA, he was the son of Elwyn V. Chesley and Sadie May Tuck Chesley. They moved to Rowayton, CT following his birth. He attended the Thomas School, Rowayton, CT and graduated from the Suffield School (now Suffield Academy), Suffield, CT.
He circumnavigated the globe in the 92' schooner Yankee from 1936-1938. He attended Clark University and spent four years, seven months in the Army during World War II, with service in the European Theater. He left the Army with the rank of Major. He spent forty-three years in the Industrial and Commercial Real Estate business with Pierson and Smith in Stamford, CT.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emma (Pat); their daughter, Deborah C. Jones of Macon, GA; his grandson, Thomas IV; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Thomas V of Macon, GA, and his grandson, Christopher of Menemsha, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic, CT 06355, or the Circumnavigators Club Foundation, 24 East 39th Street, New York, NY 10016-2588.
Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
