Ronald L. Mayfield, 82, of Weirton, W.Va., died Tuesday Sept. 25, 2007. He was born on April 25, 1925, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a son of Guy and Goldie Fagert Mayfield.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were a son, Dean Mayfield: and two brothers, his twin Donald Mayfield, and Charles Mayfield.

Ron was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific as a member of the 6th Marine Division. A few years after returning from the war, he and Evelyn Stewart married. Ron and Evelyn Mayfield celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Oct. 2, 2006. Ron worked for 32 years at Weirton Steel, retiring in 1982 from the Sheet Mill. He had a long and active retirement, overcoming many health problems by keeping a steadily positive out look. He enjoyed coin collecting, bragging about his five grandchildren, following and critiquing most any sport, helping his kids fix up their homes, and going places. He especially liked baseball, having played a lot of it as a young man. He also was good at woodworking, and helped build houses at one time. Ron was a member of the Tri-State Marine Corps Club, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his loving wife, Evelyn Mayfield: son David Mayfield of Norfolk, Va., and his wife, Martine; daughter Dawna DiAngelis of Canton, Ohio, and her husband, JD: son Darren Mayfield of Weirton, and his wife, Glenda; grandchildren Zachary Mayfield of Norfolk: David DiAngelis of Columbus, Ohio; Tony DiAngelis of Canton, Ohio; Brianna Mayfield and Daniel Mayfield, both of Weirton. Also surviving are a sister, Blanche Doty, and a brother, Ray Mayfield, both of Paden City, W.Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Road, Weirton, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral home chapel Friday at 10:30 a.m., with interment following at Three Springs Cemetery in Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 380 Summit Ave., Steubenville, Oh. 43952.
