Obituary: Hawarden, IA - Maxine Eloise Nordling, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday at the Associated Church, Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Maxine requested in lieu of flowers to please send donations to the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa (607 28th Street, Milford, Iowa 51251) or to the Associated Church in Hawarden.
Maxine Eloise Smith was born on March 2, 1923 in Hawarden to Earl and Myrtle (Miller) Smith. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1941. She married Clarence Nordling on November 4, 1944, and they lived in Hawarden until they moved to their farm north of Hawarden in 1951. Maxine loved scrabble, crossword puzzles, reading, rummage sales, and watching golf on television. She especially loved playing cards, but only if played by her rules!
Maxine is survived by two daughters: Donna (Charlie) Simmons of Fredericksburg, TX and Linda (Jim) Van Egdom of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 granddaughters: Jill (Steve) Stinnett, Jami Van Egdom and Juli (David) Hosman all of Sioux Falls, SD; a grandson, Mark Jewell of Sumner, WA; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Clarence, her parents, an infant sister, and her precious cat, Nina.
