Alvin was born in Wayne County on July 6, 1930 to the late Edward Henry Joyner and Lucy Loyd Joyner. He retired in 1983 from the North Carolina National Guard after 22 years of service. Alvin was an honor graduate of the United States Army Logistics Management Center, the National Defense University and various planning and operations courses at the Emergency Management Institute.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Brian Merritt officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Marjorie Wilson Joyner; daughter, Regina Joyner Bowling and husband Steven of Creedmoor; son, Jeffery Scott Joyner and wife Kim of Winterville; and two grandchildren, Steven Bretten Bowling and Amana Wrenn Joyner Williams.
