∼Audrey J. Ayres, 69, of New Haven, departed this life April 3, 2014. She was the wife of William H. Ayres, Jr. Born in New Canton, VA, April 13, 1944, she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel Johnson. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Ayres was employed as a Teacher by the City of New Haven Board of Education for 35 years. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and also a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, William H. Ayres, III (Cristina); a daughter, Chevonne M. Ayres; brothers, Floyd, James, Earl (Ethel) and Andrew (Ruby) Johnson; sisters, Corrine East and Thelma R. (Walter) Little; grandchildren, William H. Ayres, IV, Aniya Ayres and Gabrielle Ayres; and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of Mrs. Ayres’ life and legacy will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave., New Haven.
