Elmer Noble DeWitt, 73, Shelbyville, Ind., died Sunday, Sept. 25, 1994, in Shelbyville.

Born June 25, 1921, in Eckerty, Ind., he was the son of T.R. and Fern (Deich) DeWitt. He was married to Ermagene Impton, May 30, 1942, and she survives.

He lived in Shelbyville since 1976, when he retired. He had owned and operated motion picture theatres. He was chairman of the board of TGJ Amusements, and president of DeWitt Theatres. He had been in the entertainment business for 57 years, managing or owning theatres in Defiance, Ohio, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Noblesville, Ind., and Greensburg, as well as Oxford, Ohio. He was also the inventor of Opti-Clip Glass Protector. He was a veteran of World War II and served as Decatur County Deputy Sheriff.

He was a member of the FOP of Shelby Lodge 84, of the American Legion in Noblesville, the Elks in Shelbyville, Motion Picture Pioneers, Will Rogers Memorial Group, the Lake Santee Property Owners Association, the Patron Life member of the Variety Club International. He was past president of Shelbyville and Defiance, Ohio Lions Clubs and past president of Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce.

He was serving currently as president of Variety Club Tent 10 Indiana; was a board member of Jameson Camp, Indianapolis, board member of the Shelby County Mental Health Association and a board member of the Theatre Owners of Indiana. He was a Grand Lodge Mason, 32nd degree Mason and Murat Shrine Member.

He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. He served in World War II as a cryptographer in the Headquarters of Gen. Douglas McArthur.

In addition to his widow, Jean DeWitt, Shelbyville, he is survived by four children, James W. DeWitt, Patty DeWitt and Richard E. Delaney, all three of Shelbyville and Peggy Deakyne, Noblesville; a brother, Ed DeWitt; a sister, Mrs. James (Lela) Stein, Ft. Wayne; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville.
